It looks like we will have an interesting week end!

I post this button to show my solidarity with RCTV! I do not even watch the channel except for some early hour news show. ( La Entrevista, and La Bicha! ) I do however support the freedom of the press without government censorship.

Yesterday, there was a lot going on in Caracas. With the closure of RCTV TV channel looming overhead, things are getting heated on the street. I for one, have no doubt the closure will go through as planned at mid-night Sunday. All the marches and international support will not make a difference!

What began as a student protest of two universities, quickly joined by two other universities, and then spread through out the country, turned into a "free-for-all. Soon the National Guards were out in force.

Then a pro-chavez group arrived at the Globovision headquarters ( a 24 hour news channel) and began to paint hateful graffiti on the walls. They were riding on motorcycles belonging to the county provided by the mayor, who of course claims ignorance to the fact.

We had a lot of extra police around our house as we are in an area where there are several universities.

We then received some threats from His Highness Hugo, (H to the power of three, as my friend says!) as he wore his ilegal military garb and showed us the new Russian planes which he said were loaded with bombs that could be strategically dropped . We all were left wondering, "Dropped where? Why? When?" I felt threatened and I am sure others did as well. He also threatened the Supreme Court here if they intervened on behalf of RCTV.

Update:
It seems HHH is here. We have soldiers every 50 feet or so in all directions. We had military jets flying over all day yesterday and HHH's jet is at the airport .

I'm proud to say my university was among the ones who decided to protest yesterday! (I know it wont make a difference). Caracas is very tense right now and I guess same as you, Im afraid of what uncertainty might bring here. We are not from the same religion, jungle mom, Im catholic and Im actually one of those who rarely shows up at the church. But I bet its the same God, so lets pray now I guess. I rarely do, but since not even a cab can pick me up like you, Im doing it now.

Julia: My god bless you and generation as you fight this evil taking the country. I have just prayed for you!
God is not really interested in which religion we adhere to. He just wants us to acknowledge Him as our saviour and receive His forgiveness of our sins. I am sure that in times like these, we all realize we do need God!!
I know you have to go out , but be careful please!! You have come to represent your generation of Venezuelans to me and I care for you. Even though we only know each other via the internet! Funny how that is.
Que Dios te bendiga, hija!

Jungle mom, because of the many protest yesterday seemed like I made a move I shouldn't or I walked and ran too much and now my legs hurts a lot so I can't go out until my legs get better, unfortunatly. So don't worry, despite If I wanted or not, my mom made perfectly clear, If I can't run its suicide to go to the streets now. I have to stay home...Thanks, for your words, made me drop one tear or two when you said "representation of my generation". Hope my generation can really be the seed for a better country. It is funny indeed, but thats the great thing about internet.

In spanish, because to me will sound like coming from my heart:

Gracias amiga... por pensar en uno y por las oraciones. Estamos bien, pero anímicamente NO. Algún día sabrás la historia entera, por aquí no se puede contar.

Take care, que el "tipo" anda por aquellos lares...

Curses on that demon spawn, son of the anti-christ Ahmadinejad. I bet HHH has already pronounced the Shahaadatayn.

Sounds like you and family are preparing to leave
soon. This must be a time for testing your faith.

May you and your loved ones have the strength you need to perservere.

Gosh, I hope you are alright! I cannot stand that man. Why does he not allow people to live freely? Oh, that's right. Then they would be allowed to think for themselves and see the truth! Be careful. God bless your family and you. :)

Thank you for keeping us posted!

Love, hugs and prayers in Jesus' name, Jane

Jungle Mom: Do you think this might lead to a revolt there?

I hate to say it, but I have a distinct feeling that things are really spiralling out of control all over the world.

Please stay safe.

Judith said...

Jungle Mom, I am so praying for your safety.

HHH looks like Saddam Hussein in that picture... yikes!
It sounds like a good time for you guys to be going...things seem to really be heating up fast down there!

Jungle Mom said...

It seems fairly calm this morning. In situations like this, it can be calm on one block, and then the around the next corner, you see trouble. We are fine, just anxious to see what happens. I do not expect a major uprising. I think it is rather late for that. all the power is under one man's rule.

Cuidate, jungle mom. He's likely to take advantage of any chaos to eliminate his enemies, real or imagined. We'll be praying for you and the Venezuelan people!

Rita, I could just scream...and cry...and...and... I just read Liz's and Julia's...que dolor por ellas, me uno a ellas en solidaridad porque aunque "gringa" y "enemiga", yo amo a los Venezolanos. Son la gente mas bella del mundo!
