Protests Continue

Students marched for Morelos Square, in front of the Ombudsman's Office, where they stayed for 182 minutes, i.e. one minute for every student arrested over the last three days of demonstrations following non renewal of the broadcast license for private TV station RCTV

Paraguayan journalists quit press association that "hailed" action against RCTV

A number of journalists resigned as members of the Paraguayan Journalists' Association after the guild praised the expiration of a broadcast license for private TV channel Radio Caracas Televisión (RCTV), following the decision made by the government of Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez.

"They did not even convene us to a meeting in order to take an institutional stance," said journalist Luis Bareiro, who works with the media in Asunción, when reasoning his decision.

Bareiro disclosed that some of his colleagues were getting ready to quite, "because this association endorsed the shutdown of a media outlet resulting in layoffs of press workers."
