Landing on our airstrip

This is a landing on our short airstrip. The airstrip was 440 meters long and we always had a bit of a downdraft as we flew in over the river. On this day the downdraft was quite strong.

A slide show of our jungle flight program.

Crank those flaps all the way down, trim the nose, hit the numbers (or where they would be if there were any) and cross your fingers.

I like your blog. It was a pleasant surprise. I am a sociologist of Portugal and won you a new admirer.

Since the landing strip was grass, my guess is you didn't fly during the rainy season?

I took flying lessons in a small Cesna. I haven't flown one in years, but I know I could still fly if I had to, although I doubt I could land. Somehow I think that might be the most important part. LOL!

It reminded me of landing on the island we lived on in Belize. Thanks for making me feel that again. Who was the pilot? Also, loved your embarrassing story on my blog. Hope you win. We'll have to get as many as possible to vote next week.

Somehow, I don't think my "fast and flat" preference would work here!

gayle, we actually built the strip so that the water ran off fairly quickly. We could not land or take off in the rain but we did have fights all year round.

gutsywriter, it was fun!
This landing was done by another missionary serving with New Tribes Mission Aviation. My husband was filming. I was on the air strip and honestly thought they would had crashed as the plane dipped lower than the river bank before gaining enough lift to land.

You may not have planned it or meant it when you posted, but this one was specially for me. Love it. I hope one day we have all get to ride together and share flying stories.

I feel exactly the same way when I try to ride my bike in the Spring crosswinds.

Well, maybe not exactly...

OK, it's not even remotely the same, but it suits my dramatic nature to imagine it thusly!
