The Lion of Judah

“We cannot blink the fact that gentle Jesus, meek and mild, was so stiff in His opinions and so inflammatory in His language, that He was thrown out of church, stoned, hunted from place to place, and finally gibbetted as a firebrand and a public danger. We have very efficiently pared the claws of the Lion of Judah into a household pet for pale curates and pious old ladies.”

-Dorothy L. Sayers

There is much truth to what Dorothy Sayers says:

Far too many churches today portray Jesus as some sort of effeminate pansy and they preach a false "feel good", name it and claim it gospel.

Yes, Jesus did minister to the less savory sorts, but He did not condone their sins. Priests, pastors and ministers seem to forget that Jesus said that we are to love the sinner but hate the sin. Jesus also said; "Your sins are forgiven, go and sin no more."
He did not tell them to go and sin some more.

Some of the things that are tolerated in Churches today is scandalous.

I was recently informed that I am too outspoken for a Christian, too judgmental.
Some Christians do not actually read the New Testament and see the true Christ.

JM, I also believe that, sadly, many Christians today ONLY read the New Testament and pastors even encourage that......forgetting the awe and righteousness and anger of the OT and learning solely on the sweetness of Christ, as Sayers suggests. They can't stand thinking that God stands for something and makes demands and commandments and tells us what he wants from us, even if it's not particularly pleasant, not just "forgiveness, love, and happiness"
They forget God is more interested in our holiness than our happiness, don't you think? xx

I've often said that if you're not pissing someone off, you're not following Jesus' example!!
