Ways to Worship God

From LIVING WITH POWER, Lina Abujamra

1. Worship God in your Giving. Hey when was the last time you were moved to tears as you put that check in the offering plate? I remember cringing a few times. I even remember trying to justify skipping it. But I barely remember on one hand the times I cried while giving to the Lord. In 2 Corinthians 9:6-13 Paul is clear about this: Giving is your worship offering to the Lord. So if you cry next time you put your check in the plate, the ushers may look puzzled, but God will get it!

2. Worship God in your Serving. Did you know that God loves a servant’s heart? He loves it so much He proved it by calling His Son a servant. In Mark 10:45 it says that “For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” In Philippians 2:7 its says that Jesus “made himself nothing, taking the form of a servant”. Jesus didn’t become a worship leader in human form. He didn’t play the guitar, the keys or the drums. But He was an expert servant. So, this Sunday, if all you’re going to do is serve in the nursery, take joy in it. You are being just like Jesus.

3. Worship God in your Loving. Love identifies the follower of Jesus Christ. In Matthew 22:37 Jesus teaches us that the first commandment is to love the Lord our God with all our heart, soul, mind (that’s a worship song too I believe!). Jesus immediately follows it with “and the second is like it: you shall love your neighbor as yourself”. How’s your worship in the love department going for you? I find that the more I get to know people, the harder it can be to love them. And that’s when loving them is a true act of worship to the Lord. That kind of love is supernatural and freeing. I hope you have it.

4. Worship God in your Obedience. One of the main points of going to church is to listen to God’s word being taught. Of course, if you know and don’t do, you’ve missed the whole point. But when you obey God’s word, you reveal that you believe Him, and His word. So…do you? Do you believe God? Nothing says worship louder than obedience. Are you obeying in the big things as well as the small ones too?
