Yerba Mate
Tereré (of Guaraní origin[1]) is an infusion of yerba mate (in Spanish) / erva-mate (in Portuguese), similar to mate but prepared with cold water rather than with hot,[2] and in a slightly larger vessel. It is originally from Paraguay,[3] and is found also in northeastern Argentina and southern and western Brazil. When hot (mate), the Guaraní people call this infusion ka'ay,[4] where ka'a means herb and y means water.

Technically, that's "shimajao" the Brazilian version of terere. Close enough if you ask me, but I'm sure some of our church people would disagree. :)
Mmm...looks delicious.
*fingers crossed* O_o

Actually Brazilian mate - Brian
Don, thank you! I have been in touch with her via Face book
I have a friend from Brasil so I've seen those little sipping cuppy thinggys, but that stuff inside is pretty interesting.
Very neat!
Rita, glad you've been in touch...Thank you.. NOW
Explain to this gringo just what this mate stuff is... I don't read Spanish,or anything but American English and some are calling this everything else.."shimajao" ?????? and then Brazilian mate... To me it looks like herbs such as basil, oregeno, thyme etc which we mix with olive oil and dip hunks of bread in... but somehow or another I think its something entirely different...Can you tell me something about it and is is available in the US and where.. It looks interesting but HELP ME UNDERSTAND... THANKS DON
I just haven't developed the taste for it yet, but I do like the neighborliness of sitting around and visiting with it--only I drink Sprite or something like that and if anyone minds, they're too polite to mention it! :)
