7 children= no blogging!

I have had 4 of my neices and nephews here since Wednesday and haven't had a chance to write much. Thats explains all the fotos I uploaded. Faster than writing.
We have had a good time just hanging out.Wednesday they were all at church to hear Josh preach. He did a great job on John 1.
Then they came home with us. Bikes and all. They have all been very busy in the yard and no real trouble at all. Just the extra food and mess and stuff, but well, worth it.
Yesterday Jewel had a volleyball game and the guys went to the mall. They ate out but the kids and I ate, hotdogs and mac -n -cheese. Hmm??? I think I'll go to the mall next time.
Then the older ones sat up with us waiting to hear when and if Saddam was executed. I guess our neighbors were surprised by the loud cheers coming from our house around 11:00!!! Not that we are blood thirsty, but he did get justice!!! And a lesson to all would be dictators!!!
Today my in-laws will be back and we will have a cake for Johnny's 7th birthday. He was our Y2k baby!!! Born at home and my husband and I helped with the delivery, Then he had the drowning accident 5 years every birthday is extra special!!!
Josh leaves Tuesday, boo-hoo! But we have had a good time . Even tho he mainly eats and sleeps, like when he was a new born!! But he's much larger!! He and Jason have been hanging out in hammocks at night and discussing the mysteries of the universe ,translate that as GIRLS!!!
No , not really, just some male bonding. I know because it ends up in tussling and wrestling!
I'll get back with you all whan we have more time...

Sunday Morning, Dec.25th

Nursery Class Nativiy Scene

So , I finaly have a minute to sit here and catch everyone up a little.
FRIDAY: Did I mention, Josh came home???? We took him out for Killer sandwiches and then he headed up to his hammock on the balcony. We talked and talked and he slept there until noon on Saturday.

SATURDAY:iInished up all the baking and odds and ends. The girls had choir practices, but Josh was content to eat and sleep.

SUNDAY: Morning service was great. Jayde's choir sang and she had 2 solo parts. The nursery workers set up a live nativity with the babies dressed up. It was SOOOO cute and the babies did great. The parents misbehaved by all running up to the platform to get pictures , but other than one little lamb crying, the babies were calm.
After church we headed over to Ema Arce's first birthday party. Her mom had her dressed up with a red satin dress decorated with white fur trim and a real Hairdo. Too cute for words. We ate all the traditional Venezuelan christmas foods. We headed back to church for more practices. Jewel's youth choir sang, her adult choir sang, and Jayde sang a solo. She composed most of the song and it had us all in tears, "Christmas without Jesus". Then Clint preached. I just sat there. LOL We got home late and still had a few gifts to wrap.

MONDAY:I woke up at 4 am after having slept about 2 hours. Because of all the fireworks. I needed to help Santa a little. Stuff the stockings and all. Jewel woke us all up at 5 to open gifts. I got earrings and from Clint a letter with 3 bracelets representing the girls and a new ring for him and one representing Josh. He lost his ring in the river a few years back and in this culture a man not wearing a ring means he's on the prowl!! Thus, I wanted him to have one!! So it was for him to wear, but it was for ME!!! My sister-in law gave me an ornament from Hunting Island , SC the family beach house! So cool.
I went back to bed but at sunrise all the fireworks started up again. I slept about an hour, then the smell of the ham woke me up. Not a bad thing!
We went to work cleaning up, Clint swept and mopped the house for me! And I made a cake and mac and cheese and potatoes and gravy, I made truffles and candied walnuts.
At 1:30 My in laws showed up with her part of the menu and then some . She always goes the extra mile. We had food for a small nation!! For lunch we had 15 of us as the Brazilians were here as well. They are with BIMI , Brazil. I feel connected to them since she grew up in Jimmy Roses church in brazil. He is an old friend of my dads and I rode my first roller coaster with him. He is now a director at our mission.
After the meal we all ended up in hammocks on the balcony. The kids played in the park out back. The older ones watched a Dvd Josh had brought. Then everyone started heading back for more food and the Zorns showed up and ate with us. They are friends from way back and wanted to see Josh as their 2 sons are friends of his. I put all the food up and everyone headed to the patio where the video projector was set up to watch, Christmas with the Cranks.
The doorbell rang and it was Ruthy Arce and her husband, brother-in-law and his friend. To see Josh of course. But out came the food again. We had a good visit. She is expecting and has 12 weeks so she will deliver around the same time as Jackie.
So we fed 8 more people. Plus 15 twice. and still had leftovers!!

TUESDAY: OUCH!! Pain of course! Hung out all day, Jewel went to volleyball practice. Then my nephew and the 2 Zorn boys showed up Clint took them all to the baseball game . Cardenales were smokin'!!!17-3!!! They went back out for Killers again. All four guys decided to sleep in hammocks on the balcony.

WEDNESDAY: The boys just woke up and are eating coffee cake and giggling like girls!! Josh will be preaching tonight.
So , that is life in these Socialistic States of Venezuela!

'Tis the Season to be busy....

It started last Friday with Jewels Banquet. They had about 100 teens! The teens ourcampground and had a formal banquet followed by all night games and such. They slept a few hours and then headed to the pool for the day. She got in just in time on Saturday to head to choir practice.
Sunday was a busy church day with extra choir practice for Jewel's adult choir, teen choir, and Ladies ensamble. Jayde had practicefor her childrens choir and stayed to practice her solo as well.
Monday we had a missionary luncheon and a gift exchange with all the MK's. (miissionary kids). Jayde got a Cardenales hat, Jewel got a bracelet, and Josh even got 3 deluxe chocalate bars. Eventho he wasn't here yet.
Monday night was the college and careers banquet at which Clint was speaking and Jewel was serving so.. everyone got home to bed around 1:30 am. We had about 100.
Tuesday was the adult banquet, Clint and I had made ceasar dressing for the Monday banquet, about 2 gallons. We had to make over 5 gallons and fry the bacon and grate cheese! Please , I never want to see garlic again!! We had 450 adults. once again, Jewel seved tables and her choir sang a short version of the cantata planned for Sunday. We had another late night.
Wednesday, I stayed home because, well I couldn't get out of bed. The old back, dont you know! So i didn't do much but the others had church and practices and....
I was feeling some better this morning but had only slept about 3 hours last night. Even so I figured I better get the groceries for Christmas bought before the stores ran out of everything.Already, we have no sugar and nuts in the stores and some other staples HOWEVER since I had bought up food in case of violence during the elections, we are all set!! Yeah!
I got home about 11 and could hardly walk, so Clint ordered me to bed. I woke up at 4:00!!!!!Good sleep and feel somewhat better. I think I am getting some arthritis mainly in my back, but have been having alot of pain in my knee and annkle, too.
Jayde had her SS christmas party, once again at the pool. Tht must seem odd to you all up north, but Cristmas without swimming would be like... Christams without snow????
Then Jewel hd volleyball practice for the womans church league. the tournaments are in January. Now Clint and the girls went over to help eat my sister-n-laws birthday cake. I still dont feel like sitting too long and want to rest up for JOSH. he gets in tomorrow. We are SO excited!
Tomorrow Josh arrives and we will take him out for Killers, the famouse steak subs here that Jackie posted the recipe for once.
Saturday we will bake and bake. Sunday is church and all the choir specials and Clint is preaching in the evening service. we will spend the day, Lord willing also celebrating the first Birthday of alitlle MK, Emma. Eating traditional venezuelan Christmas foods. Hallacas, pan de jamon, ensalada de gallina. Yummo!
On the 25th my in-laws are coming over toeat with us . we are having ham and all the fixins'.2 americanballplayers are coming also, and a single missionary who is from Ireland. He said he would bring something traditional Irish eat. I asked , "what?" He said, "potatoes" So Nigel is doing the potatoes if he can come.
Sorry this is long and rambling but thats how I feel right now, kind of scattered brained!
Love you all and have a very Merry Christmas! excuse the typos! cant get everything to work right and have sat too long for now.

I Cor. 13

I recieved this from a reitred missionary lady who still works in our home office. She had to flee the congo in the 60's due to war and then was evacuated by armored car from Nicaragua under Daniel Ortega. So she is a real hero of the faith!! Great insight for us all.
Corinthians 13 Christmas Style

If I decorate my house perfectly with plaid bows, strands of twinkling lights and shiny balls, but do not show love to my family, I'm just another decorator.

If I slave away in the kitchen, baking dozens of Christmas cookies, preparing gourmet meals and arranging a beautifully adorned table at mealtime, but do not show love to my family, I'm just another cook.

If I work at the soup kitchen, carol in the nursing home and give all that I have to charity, but do not show love to my family, it profits me nothing.

If I trim the spruce with shimmering angels and crocheted snowflakes, attend a myriad of holiday parties and sing in the choir's cantata but do not focus on Christ, I have missed the point.

Love stops the cooking to hug the child.

Love sets aside the decorating to kiss the husband.

Love is kind, though harried and tired.

Love doesn't envy another's home that has coordinated Christmas china and table linens.

Love doesn't yell at the kids to get out of the way.

Love doesn't give only to those who are able to give in return but rejoices in giving to those who can't.

Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

Love never fails. Video games will break, pearl necklaces will be lost, golf clubs will rust. But giving the gift of love will endure.

What a great day to live in if one has to be seperated from loved ones! No more pity parties! So, I feel better counting my blessings and besides.... Josh is coming home in 5 days!!!

For my bi-cultural familia!! This is a favorito of the season!!

Jim and Nita Lee (Dec. 1972)
'Twas the night before Christmas and all through the casa,
Not a creature ws stirring -- Caramba! Que pasa?
Los ninos were tucked away in their camas,
Some in long underwear, some in pijamas,
While hanging the stockings with mucho cuidado
In hopes that old Santa would feel obligado
To bring all children, both buenos and malos,
A nice batch of dulces and other regalos.
Outside in the yard there arose such a grito
That I jumped to my feet like a fightened cabrito.
I ran to the window and looked out afuera,
And who in the world do you think that it era?
Saint Nick in a sleigh and a big red sombrero
Came dashing along like a crazy bombero.
And pulling his sleigh instead of venados
Were eight little burros approaching volados.
I watched as they came and this quaint little hombre
Was shouting and whistling and calling by nombre:
"Ay Pancho, ay Pepe, ay Cuco, ay Beto,
Ay Chato, ay Chopo, Macuco, y Nieto!"
Then standing erect with his hands on his pecho
He flew to the top of our very own techo.
With his round little belly like a bowl of jalea,
He struggled to squeeze down our old chiminea,
Then huffing and puffing at last in our sala,
With soot smeared all over his red suit de gala,
He filled all the stockings with lovely regalos --
For none of the ninos had been very malos.
Then chuckling aloud, seeming very contento,
He turned like a flash and was gone like the viento.
And I heard him exclaim, and this is verdad,
Merry Christmas to all, and Feliz Navidad!

Life Goes On

We have all been a bit depressed around here, so we decided to put up our tree. We can only be encouraged when we remember , God loves us, sent His son to be our Savior, and will come for us at the appointed time. The girls did most of the work on the tree and Clint and I did the outside lights. This is the largest tree we aver have had. we inherited it used from some other americans who left Venezuela. Clint and I went out looking for lights and it took almost the whole day. But, hey thats socialism for you! (oops! I let that slip)

Bear with me

My heart aches! I cant really write , it hurts to know what the future holds for all my friends here.

It feels like someone died. We were out for awhile trying to get Christmas lights, and everyone was walking around in shock. Its like a bad dream. But the media will support it and that is that.

Sorry to be so depressing, our girls were crying last night. Chavez' speech was so hateful and boastful. The Chavistas have been driving around yelling and honking and all wearing red.

They have no clue what they have allowed to happen.

Well today is the day. There are record lines out at the polls. Hopefully that is good news. So far all is calm and we do expect it to remain that way until results are posted. Most likely in the middle of the night tonight. We are headed to church. Our church is in a Chavez stronghold. So we will only be attending this morning. Dont want our white gringo faces to start any problems, and certainly not at church. We have had drive by shootings in the past. So pray for us all today. Pray for change. The title is short for Spanish, atrevete! It means DARE to change!!!
