Labor Day had to have been named by a man...

I had forgotten today was a US holiday. If it weren't for the Internet I would never know these things. Once, while in the jungle, my husband and I both forgot our own anniversary. We were doing good if we remembered what day of the week it was as those things did not matter much in that culture.

But today is Labor Day. I am sure the holiday was named by a man! What woman would choose 'labor' as a name for a day of rest?

Sundays are always busy for us. Yesterday we had morning services, Sunday School and church, followed by a baptismal in the new baptistery. 6 adults were baptized. At 3:00 Clint had a study with 12 new couples, all unchurched. At 6:00 was a pre-marital counseling session and evening services at 7:00.

So you can see why we take Mondays as our day off. Today we had planned to just hang out at the house, maybe watch some dvd's with Jayde, but now that we know it is a holiday, we feel pressured to CELEBRATE!

So we have to go out and find some meat, get a gas tank for the BBQ, I have to bake something...

I should never have gotten online today! I could have had a relaxing day, but now I have to have LABOR DAY!

Haha, JungleMom! I know exactly what you're talking about. I'm usually surprised to know what day of the week it is overseas; and I never know specific dates. Time definitely has a different pace and function in the jungle!

I hope you have a great day with your family!

I live right here in the U.S. of A. AND I homeschool, but holidays still catch me by surprise. This probably partly because we don't watch tv and partly because my hubby is a nurse and works all sorts of odd days.

So, today I went to check my mail - no mail. I tried to call our mechanic about an appointment - no mechanic. I tried to call my hairdresser for an appointment - no hairdresser. I emailed our associate pastor about some needs for a homeless family (not that we need a homeless family; there's a homeless family with needs) - no A.P. I called our church secretary about an upcoming memorial service to offer my help and she never returned my call. It was then, ONLY then that knew something was up because our pastor DOES take Monday off, but our associate pastor takes Tuesdays off instead and our secretary is always there.

Except today.

Because "lightbulb-goes-on" it's a holiday. Surprise!

Oh well, I Googled "Labor Day" really quickly and made it into a homeschool moment.

LOL so true, only a man would associate labor with a day sitting by the pool and BBQ! Too funny.

You are so funny! And I am sure, so true!

I almost forgot it was Labor Day too! I'm glad that you folks take every Monday "off" because it sounds like you really need it! Enjoy today--even if you have to labor alittle! :)

The college my two oldest siblings went to intentionally does not take Labor Day off because they have philosophical disagreements with the Labor Unions... which are apparently where the holiday gets its name. (Hillsdale College- one of the few accredited colleges that takes no federal aid)

Yes Labor day reminds me of women in labor. Anyway, sounds like you were too busy with your BBQ and baking to relax as you would normally do on a Monday. Hope you enjoyed it though.

LOL

I forgot about. But I doubt I'd have done anything to celebrate though. Might head to the beach this weekend though. :)
