The Things I See...

Cute children walking to school!

Seeing the children in their uniforms walking to school, hand in hand, reminds me of my own school days. My siblings and I often walked to school or rode our bikes. My sister, Pam of Midnight Musings , was our substitute mother on these journeys. She always watched out for us. Most of the time my brother and I were not appreciative of her bossiness, but cherished the freedom of being able to get to school on our own without parental involvement, so we put up with it.

Do you have fond memories of walking to school?

What precious pictures...and nice memories! I walked to school when I was in Kindergarten with my grandmother and she would tell me stories of her childhood in Croatia! I cherish those memories and enjoy telling the stories to my nieces and nephew.

Those will make for lasting memories!

I never walked to school, we always lived so far away my Mom would drive me. There were a few school bus episodes mixed into that equation, but they were not fond memories.

Thanks for sharing!

The atmosphere looks so sweet and cheerful !

I was the oldest but my sister insisted on walking alone because she didn't want me to be her boss. Then one fateful day I found her, while on my way to school, totally stuck in the snow because of a snow suit. The snowsuit made it impossible for her to lift herself out, so I gave her a hand.

From then on she wanted me to walk with her. Those walks were so memorable that even today I can remember the details of the gardens ,sidewalks and pets and conversations with my sister.

I loved walking to school until middle school and high school turned out to be so far away and I still had to trek there on foot. No it never snowed but it still wasn't fun.

50 miles uphill both ways through the snow.

I lived too far for most of the time to walk. A bus trip on the newly invented wheel.

We were horrible kids. Even though we lived only a few blocks from school we wheedled the bus driver into adding us to her route. LOL

My wife walked to school in Lagos, Nigeria. One evening as she and her siblings walked home, they came across a rock python that stretched from one side of the trail to the other.

Not fun.

I had to walk halfway across town to go to elementary school - almost three whole blocks! each way! and walking home after was sooooo much more fun than walking there.

In that tiny town in the Texas panhandle, the only hazards we faced were stray dogs and tumbleweeds, and on very rare occasion snakes, spiders, or scorpions.
