We have that red dirt here in NC as well, and we had it in the 'cerros' of Caracas.My kids used to play in it at school because their school was backed up against a hill in San Luis. Their uniform featured stark white shirts- so you can just imagine.
The only way I could get the dirt out was lots of scrubbing with blue soap.
Yes, can't wait to see the flower bed in a few months! (Can't wait to see the whole yard!) Do your grandkids come inside red from playing outside? They must look so cute!
