We Are Fine!

All is calm around us. At midnight there was a lot of pot banging and sirens along with fire works to protest the, "non renewal" of RCTV's license. I will not refer to it as a closure, as I could be sued for saying that. In the words of my son, the government is saying, " I am not making the media be quiet and if anyone says I am, I will make them SHUT UP!" Yesterday there were threats to close down Globovision and CNN en espanol for 72 hours for covering a news conference of reporters. (SIP)

Thanks for your prayers. Not sure what today will hold for the country...just have to wait and see.

I am curious...is anyone in the MSM even covering this?

I've heard about the shutdown on Fox News International, here in Israel. I don't think that the Hebrew press has it; too many other things to worry about...

OK, stay safe.

There isn't a word about Venezuela in either of my local Detroit paper. This will remain unreported unless nude photos of Chavez show up on the Internet. Or unless he gets into a tiff with Rosie O'Donnell.

Jungle mom,
I once heard someone say that blogging would become the only way we could get accurate news...maybe sites like yours will be the source people in your country rely on now...is there anyway for them to shut you down?...hope not!

They wouldn't dare interfere with a process they approve of. In their eyes, the government knows best. I'm more surprised Carter isn't on the air somewhere right now cheering his fascist little buddy on.

My husband said he had seen something about it on the AOL news headlines but it was portrayed as "not a nbig deal -- just a demonstration." I don't think he has seen mention of it on the TV news but we haven't had it on much the last few days. I will keep an ear open.

...if democracy has a soul, that soul is a free and independent press. Venezuela, last night, officially closed down its' soul. And one can only wonder if without its' soul, Venezuela can still legitimately be called a democracy. I think not.

This was on Fox News yesterday..I worried about you immediately..Glad to know all is well...Wow, this guy is so dangerous. I know that is an understatement to you and your family...

I love that we have your eyes and ears on the situation and most importantly that you are safe.

Loved Tom's remark about Carter *grin*

We have not heard one word about it here in the local Tulsa news or on CNN.

I'm really sorry. I can't imagine how helpless you all feel. This was in the Houston Chronicle today:

Fox News had a 5-10 minute segment on it this morning. They covered it as it happened.

The news media carried some coverage of this story, but it takes some reading between the lines to fully understand what is happening.

This is why I was so concerned about your location a couple post back.

We are continuing to pray for you.

I'm glad you're taking some time off. Take good care.

We saw a 30-second blurb about it on the national news here in Canada last night. Not much, but at least it was acknowledged.

So glad you are safe!

Fox New Channel has been covering the demonstrations and the violence.

Also see their website.

I saw this on FOX news! People were clashing with the Venezuelan police because of Chavez's shutting down their speech in the press.

Harry, the local Detroit papers are pretty awful.
Last I saw them (Oct '06), they'd even gotten worse since I last lived there (Dec '04).

These are scary pictures!! I am praying for you and your family!! I don't think the mainstream medis really is covering much of this, at least I'm not seeing anything about it. I hope everything settles down soon around there...

Hi Jungle Mom,

The only place I saw mention of it was on Univisión. Though I've spent the day traveling from CT to DC, I haven't seen it in any of the papers or major news outlets. I would be surprised if it gets a 3-line write-up in tomorrow's metro guide. Will let you know tomorrow.

PLEASE, STOP MISLEADING YOUR FRIENDS, MY DEAR JUNGLE MAMA!

There has been a mention on the BBC Radio (may well have appeared on BBC TV) here in the UK.

Hey glad you all are okay. I'm going to call you right after I post this. I haven't been home or had the TV on much this weekend, so I haven't heard a thing.

The answer is, very little. I hear about it on the blogs and that's about it.

I've seen some video of the demonstrations on CNN here in the states. Not a lot of "talk coverage" though.
