Is It Just Me?

I hate word verification! I detest it! If you have it, I probably don't leave many comments. No matter how many times I type in those crazy letters...I get it wrong! Then I have to squint through it all again. punch, punch, punch! And some times it is a long list of nonsensical letters.

Other times, my ADD kicks in and I get distracted and never even finish typing. You see, I have a strange habit...I try to make up words from the letters! Some of them are hilarious!

wbpgs? We be pigs!
rugly? Are you ugly!
ilkicrm? I like ice cream!
The one above .. bumflop! LOL! I can just see myself taking a hard fall and landing on my backside!

I start having so much fun, I just keep pushing the button over and over again to see what comes up. That will explain why some of you receive duplicate or triplicate comments from me!

The other thing I hate is ...opening a blog with music! Now, some of you, I know already, have music so I am prepared. But occasionally, I start to link surf. I open a blog and !!!!!! Loud music scares me to death! I have nearly thrown the laptop a time or two! This was a real problem for me until my twelve year old showed me the mute button! She probably saved my life, for if I did throw the computer, my husband would not be HAPPY!

So, does anyone else have this pet peeve about word verification?

me, Me, ME!!!! I do! I hate it! I always end up feeling a little stupid, a little dislexic, and a lot annoyed! Grrrrr!

hee, hee, hee - oh yeah, I start to get frustrated because I KNOW I've typed in the right thing!

The music makes me jump sometimes too, when I'm not expecting it!

The word verification doesn't bother me that much because I think it blocks spam and that to me is worth it. I must admit that I have to get a magnifying glass sometimes and re-do it quite often.

The music is another matter. I do not like having other people play their music to me, whether it be on a telephone while I have to wait or on a blog. I go to read.
Sincc it's true that nothing is black and white to me (see the brain pattern) I think sometimes when the music fits what has been posted it's okey. Have I confused you completely?

They are so annoying and sometime very hard to read.

I don't like it either. There are times when I know that I typed it correctly but because of the length of my post, which is 4 lines or more, it makes me retype the letters...that's aggrevating. However, I put it on some of my sites because I was getting spam comments that had links in them which led to porn sites!

I hate it too; unfortunately, I get reams of spam comments without it.

If only Blogger had an IP blocker in their comment options.

I don't mind the word verification because it keeps out the unwanted garbage...which I do hate!

But OH!!! now that I know you can make it a game, it will become a challenge! I'm one of those people who tries to make sense of all license plates. Ha!

I keep my speakers off. Hehehe.

I use Haloscan comments; otherwise, with Blogger, I get reams of spam.

I use 'moderate comments' that way I can accept or delete.

I often have difficulty with the 'word verification' - is it my eyesight or is the system at fault??

Thank you so much for you very kind comments, still weakened but a little better and how sweet of you - apart from the pipes that is!!

Enjoy your day and blessings to you all.

oh btw..I dont like comment moderation either..I like to see my comments to make sure they got there!...heh

Rita Loca said...

wokanhonorthyself; I would love to not use comment moderation, however, I have a few Chavista trolls that love to use some pretty foul language and say hateful things! I get a kick out of *deleting* them as if they do not even exist! it makes them so mad, it is worth the moderation alone!

I get frustrated with comment verification, too. I wouldn't mind it as much if there were not SO many letters and they weren't all scrunched up and hard to distinguish. I've had to make three tries to finally get it right some times.

I usually mute music on blogs, too. It makes my brain try to go two places at once and that hurts.

I hate it too. That's why I like the blogs that have implemented HaloScan.

Worst of all is the word verification for blogger (as on your screenshot) - even if I seemingly type all the characters well it still demands me one or two more verifications.

I couldn't agree more.No matter what I do I end up not correctly typing the right thing.
I carried my shame privately until now.
Maybe we can form a support group! For the children we can offer therapy OR up the medication!!!( sorry penofjen obviously is getting goofy from to many word verifications!)

Well, At least I am not alone!

Yup I am dislexic, so it really bugs me. When I am tired, that wavey line is what regular lines look like. And I try to make words too!

I put it on my site for the spam though. I tried to do without, but the spammers were just too annoying. I had a short stint with comment moderation too, but sometimes I lose internet access for long periods of time unexpectedly so that doesn't work out.

JM: Pelosi is coming to Venezuela! Aren't you excited? According to leadership staff, she has members of her personal staff working on initial plans for a trip to Venezuela, perhaps in the fall, to meet with Chavez.

Serendip, thanks for the heads up! Thankfully I will be gone by then! The Dems are crazy!!! Bush has never received or met with Chavez and it drives the guy crazy! What is she thinking!!!

I hate having it, especially when I have to use it to comment on my own blog, but the spam comments were getting ridiculous.

Stephanie Appleton said...

I turned my verifications off. I still rarely get spam.

The music bothers me b/c it slows down my computer. (It's a dog!) We have head phones plugged in so I don't have to listen to the music unless I want to.

Dawn said...

I don't like it, but understand why. But I too have to type two or three times to get it right - o you are definitely not alone!

groovyoldlady said...

I hate it, but I approve all my comments because I was getting some "Hey, Baby" ones.

I DO like the verifications on Island Mama's because they are always real words related to Hawaii like, well, "Hawaii". How can you screw that up?

I like the ones on Squidoo too - always two unrelated words like "squidbot" or "gigglebum".

Music? 2 thumbs down. I posted about it a week or two ago. It always scares the pee-oopy right outa me!

Liz said...

Hehehe JM, I find them a little annoying too. But understand their use.

Music or sound, that I don't like. I will give a prize to whomever invented the mute button (even for the TV remote!). I also hate the PPS attached to e-mails with terror sounds.

I completely agree!! I have a hard enough time writing a comment that makes sense!! HEHEHE!

I must be the ONLY one who is not bothered by either one...I guess I'm just CONTRARY! Are you calling me a Chavista troll, Rita?

Man, I am so sorry JM for the music on my blog. I sure hope you took the time to read the blog with your mute button on. I had a great purpose for adding the music. Little did I know that it annoyed so many people. Time to go write a blog and take the music off.
Love ya anyway :)

Ginger; Actually I liked your song it came on softly! And I did read the post, it was very sweet and especially that you and your girls listened to the song together.

32 plus this comment on this topic. You found a hot button! I am so so relieved to know I am not alone! I always felt so stupid that I couldn't get the letters right! I seem to always have to try 2 or 3 times to get approved.

Music I don't mind sometimes. I guess it depends on what kind of mood I am in!

Rosemary Welch said...

I do not like the extra typing, but what can I do? lol.

Fair warning: I have some music on my DoD Daily News site. It plays taps along with a video that I believe is very relevant. My friend, a retired Navy man, put it there. It is NOT loud, as he knows I will not allow that! :)

Tracey said...

This was HILARIOUS! I hate them too! I usually get the stupid "q" and "g" wrong...

Heather K said...

Yes I thought I was the only one that couldn't type.... well not on these word verifications anyway!!! How annoying! I got rid of mine because of this problem. I haven't had ANY spam on my blog at all.! Yes I also agree about the music... It doesn't startle me but sometimes it's annoying... not always... but yeah the mute button is great for that... I usually will listen if it sounds appealing to me. Looks like you hit a much opined (is THAT a word??) topic!
